Owner and Creator of CED, The “S” Series & Violett and Gabby Lines Of Fashion DollsDoug James's entry into the Fashion doll world was completely unexpected.Studying Theatre Arts in college, acting, directing, costume and set design, heassumed his designs would be in the larger scale rather than smaller. Moving to Manhattan after graduation, Doug worked at the Julliard School in thecostume department as well as for the Brooks-Van Horn Costume Co. He spenttwo seasons as Artistic Director for the Shady Lane Playhouse, a professionaltheatre company outside of Chicago. Back in New York Doug has created millinery (hats) for the broadway stage forPhantom of the Opera, Will Roger's Follies, Guys and Dolls, Nine, Candida,Streetcar Named Desire, St. Joan and the MUPPETS among others. For several years Doug worked with John Noble at the Museum of the City ofNew York restoring antique French fashion doll clothing. He also made four oneof a kind dolls that were exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York.Doug has worked on numerous films including Mona Lisa Smile, Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp, Wolf, GuardingTess, Sabrina, A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island. At this writing he is working on thenew Angelina Jolie-Matt Damon film.For television Doug has made hats and costumes for Mourning Becomes Electra for PBS, received an Emmyaward for millinery work for the daytime drama All My Children and for the past 14 years has been part of thewardrobe team for NBC's Saturday Night Live for which he received another Emmy award. Doug has also taught Theatrical Millinery classes for graduate and under graduate students at RutgersUniversity for the past 10 years.In the Fashion doll and collectible doll world, Doug has designed for the Gene doll for the Ashton-DrakeCompany, Cissy for the Madam Alexander Company, Willow and Daisy for the Knickerbocker Company andcurrently owns and operates JDJ International, the company that produces the CED line of fashion dolls.Copyright 2011 JDJ International, LLC.
